The Metrology Lab is useful for engineering students to provide knowledge about different aspects of measurement. Whether linear or angular, measurements are dealt with here. Most often, measuring instruments lose their accuracy after prolonged usage. This leads to errors in measurement, which are further supplemented with other errors. An overview of calibration has been thoroughly covered, and its importance is emphasized. Various types of instruments are used, and their accuracy is ascertained with the help of standards like slip blocks and sine bars. Surface roughness measurement and checking of tool angles are some of the major features of this laboratory. Acceptance tests for different machine tools are also one of the salient features of this lab. The lab is equipped with the latest CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) costing ?9 Lakhs, installed under a sponsored project by AICTE, New Delhi.
